Ok, so I know I have talked to a few families about trying to get a camping trip up an running, so here is my feeble attempt to go public. There is an area that we have been camping at for the last few years that seems like it might be a good location for our first annual 3strandscampaganza. it is a private campground which means that it is by reservations only, but it also is considered to be "camping light." by that i mean that there is full flush toilets (not just outhouses) and hot showers. there is a large grass area, a playground, a few horseshoe pits, and a river all on the premises (not to mention standard fire pits and picnic benches on each site). also, the camp ground is right outside of Buena Vista which has a lot of other things that people can do, the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness for 14ers/hiking, tons of lakes/streams, and the Arkansas river for fishing, there are 4x4 trails in the area, a 1,000 yrd shooting range, and white water rafting. Anyway if you are interested, let me know so we can start pinning down some dates. the location is about 2 hr drive from here. if we can get 20 people, we can get the group site which would be very advantageous over a number of smaller, 4-6 person sites. anyway, the place is called chalk creek campground. If you all would like someplace closer, let me know, i just thought this would be a good location with pretty nice amenities for people who are not used to camping and/or have small kids that might make "roughin' it" a little more difficult. Let me know what you think.

We are totally up for it! Are you thinking of having it over a 3-day weekend...or longer?

Definitely interested - couldn't guarantee quiet children if we are all sharing a tent??? Haven't tried the overnight portion yet with 2! But willing to give it a shot!

ReplyDeleteOk, so got some bites, let go with it :). I'm down to have just about any time that it works for the most people. I will say that I think the rib will max out at about 3 days/2nights...maybe one more but that is pushin it. I'm guessing a weekend works best for most, thing is, do we miss church for a church campout? IF we want a weekend, and we can get enough peeps, we should nail it down sooner rather than later so we can get reservations secure. we have gone in past years in late June/early July and the weather has been just about perfect. Doesn't mean that is when we should go this time, just throwing that out there.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the quiet kids go, bah, this is camping! I think we all know how that goes anyway so no worries (at least as far as I am concerned :). IF we can get the group site, that should not be an issue at all anyway.

We would love to try out the Chalk Creek Campground. I think 3days/2nights over a weekend in late June would be a good time, too. We have an extra tent if there is a family who would like to use it the weekend we go... It's a big Kelty that fits 4-6 people.
ReplyDeleteI know I said late June, but my brother is getting married on the 26th and I am "on call" for the hospital on the 19-20. Sooo, how about the weekend of the 12? Still have to decide on the missing church for a church camp out deal. Anyway, the weekend of the 12 works for us, but if is bad for others, let me know. Thoughts? Maybe July instead?
ReplyDeleteJuly might ensure warmer weather, but then it IS Colorado, so you never know. ;)
ReplyDeleteAs far as missing church, we could always do a family-oriented devotional or message during the trip..?
We can, and would enjoy going on the weekend of the 12th.
ReplyDeleteUpdate: Called the campground today and given the number of families interested, looks like the site cost will be $35 per family for the weekend (Fri-Sun). if we can get more people interested, the price would go down. Let me know what you are thinking so I can reserve the right number of sites.
